She swung the doors open, not bothering to close them behind her.

And then, there she was. In Greysen's rooms. Suddenly very, painfully aware of her bare back and low-cut dress.

He walked in after her, closing the doors. Locking them. Oh Gods.

All of her confidence vanished. She had been fueled by anger, and had been more than ready to have her way with Greysen. But now… standing here… alone in a room with him…

Oh Gods indeed.

He slowly made his way across the room – like a lion approaching his prey – to where she stood, fighting not to fidget.

She had been so sure this was what she wanted, and he was the one she wanted it with, but now she was not so sure anymore. Greysen had been with dozens, maybe even hundreds of women before. Who was skinny little Adelaide in comparison?

As if reading the question in her eyes, he stopped a good foot away from her.

“We don't have to do anything you don't want to,” he said, his chest rising and falling quickly.

Could it be that he was… nervous? No. Certainly the Greysen Cromwell could not be nervous to be with someone like Adelaide. Maybe with someone like Layla, where there was a lot more body that he would have to handle, but she was just… well, not like Layla and that kind of girl.

She took a tentative step towards him. And then another. She came close enough that they shared breath.

Even in heels, Greysen was still taller than Adelaide. She stood on her tippy toes – as much as she could with her shoes – and brushed her lips against his. Lightly, barely a touch.

She pulled away, looking at him intensely enough that he swallowed.

“I want a distraction.”

His brows furrowed and she clarified, “Purely physical. I know how you are with the people you… get involved with. The last thing we need is to get messy feelings in the middle of this.”

She could swear he looked almost disappointed, but he nodded and gave her one of his signature smirks.

“Just sex then?”

“No!” she said, louder than she had intended. His brows raised and he took a step back. “No, I mean… I don't what to have sex with you.”

He looked genuinely confused, and honestly, Adelaide could understand why.

“Then what do you want?” he asked softly. For some reason, Adelaide was afraid he would have gotten angry at her for not wanting to sleep with him, but he looked very understanding. That alone gave her the courage to do what she did next.
